Club Minutes
The meeting was called to order by President George Powell at 7:10 pm at the South Fork Community Building after a pot luck dinner.
George welcomed everyone, 28 club members present, 5 guests.
George asked if everyone had a chance to read the January club minutes. It was found the minutes required amending relative to the new membership directory which had been presented at the January meeting but overlooked in the minutes. Motion was made and seconded to accept the amended minutes. Motion carried.
Financial Report: Lloyd gave the Treasurer’s report. Expenses far outweighed income last month: income $294.00; expenses $1,253.00. However, the last grooming check did come in for $4,800.00 and will be reflected in the next financial report. Motion was made and seconded to accept the treasurer’s report, motion carried.
President’s Report: We have received a grant for $10,700.00 for a better truck to haul the snow cat. Research is now being done in order to determine what type of truck will best fit our needs. We have until June to spend this money.
Curt Miller attended the meeting as a representative of CSA. He reports that on March 5 there will be a meeting at the community building at 6:30 pm concerning plans for the San Juan forest area. The 2008 CSA meeting will be held in Buena Vista February 22, 23 and 24. All club members are invited to attend.
Snow Shoe Report: Gail Longfellow reported yesterday’s outing to Bear Creek was fun and filled with lots of snow for the 10 participants led by Ozzie Wells. Meet for snow shoe hikes at the community center at 10:00 am each Monday. Everyone’s welcome.
Snow Mobile Report: Dwayne Powers reports the Thursday rides have basically all been snowed out. But he is hopeful that this Thursday’ ride to Willow Park will actually take place! Meet at the visitors’ center at 9:00 am
Social Report: Harolena reported the club will host the March community pot luck on the 11th. Please be at the community center at 10 am if you can help set up. She reports Le Shepherd is doing much better with treatments for her back problems.
Sales Report: Barbara Thiesfeld reported there are SilverThreader items/ clothing for sale. Also, she distributed the new directory to members who didn’t get one last month. Harolena told members to let her know if you want ATV flags.
Old Business: Joe DeGrado reminded everyone that the sled race will be February 23. Meet at the visitors center at 8 am. If you don’t have a snowmobile, let Joe know and he’ll see that everybody has a ride to Tucker Ponds.
New Business: An error was made in scheduling the community center activities, so next month the club will meet at the new library at 7:00 pm. The board suggests we all attend the Kiwanis Chili Supper from 5-7 in the community building instead of our usual pot luck. Club members agreed.
Also, there will be a meeting at the Del Norte Annex next Tuesday at 7:00 pm. The county commissioners are holding a public hearing concerning the proposed new community center to be built in Del Norte. Funding for this project will be through increased tax levies including property owners in South Fork
George introduced Heather MacSlarrow, Director of the Southwest Conservation Corps. A grant has been obtained for the corps to improve trails on Grayback in the Rio Grande National Forest.
A boardwalk will be constructed across the swampy portion of the trail.
50/ 50: Eve Wells won and donated back to the club.
