Community Building
Club minutes
The meeting was called to order by President George Powell at 7:05 pm at the South Fork Community Building after a pot luck dinner.
George welcomed everyone, 28 club members present, 2 guests.
George asked if everyone had a chance to read the September club minutes. Motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes. Motion carried.
Financial Report: Bill Longfellow gave the Treasurer’s report. We currently have a positive balance in our checking and money market accounts. The quilt raffle continues to generate funds which are kept in a separate account. It is intended that the club’s finances will be in positive territory by year’s end. Motion was made and second to approve the financial report. Motion carried. For grooming income, club members are asked to pray fervently for snow, snow and more snow.
President’s Report: George thanked everyone who graciously gave of their time and effort to participate in the recent community building kitchen clean up and also the Hwy 160 trash pick up. In November, election of the club’s Vice President and Treasurer for the next 2 years will take place.
Hiking Report: Dennis reports the day’s hike to Cross Creek was a bit steep and rocky but great fun was had by all. All hikers wore hunters’ orange. While most of the group made their way back down the steep trail hyper-vigilant due to loose rocks under foot and at a snail’s pace, several persons were noted to be virtually flying down the trail doing the "sherpa shuffle." The rest of the group were pea-green. Dennis invites all hikers to join in the exercise, fun and fellowship next Tuesday at 9:00, meeting at the Community Center before hiking to Baxter Mountain.
ATV Report: Connie reported the group rode up Aqua Ramon. Six riders had great fun, all sporting hunters’ orange so as to survive the ride intact, or at least to not get shot.
Social Report: Harolena reports ths club will provide meat for the November club meeting on 11/20. Members are asked to bring side dishes and desserts. Dwayne reminds everyone of the Kiwanis Chili Cook-Off 10/19.
Fund Raising and Sales Report: Elizabeth reports that the Kiwanis Chili affair will be the last big push to sell quilt raffle tickets. The drawing for the winning ticket will be held at the Thanksgiving Day Kiwanis Dinner.
Old Business: Discussed was the issue of reapplying for the grant to purchase a second drag or a bigger truck for the snow cat. The decision of the board was to not move forward with grant re-application at this time due to the logging which will take place cutting out 8-9 miles of grooming roads for us, and also the possibility of a mild winter with less snow. There was feeling among some members that we should go ahead with the grant effort. As such, motion was made to reapply for the money, which would require matching funds from the club and a possible bank loan to obtain said match money. The voice vote that followed was inconclusive, and a show of hands clearly defeated the motion. Motion failed.
New Business: Dwayne will obtain a list of "no hunting days" on Pool Table Mountain so that club work days can be scheduled for purposes of setting out snow mobile poles/ potties. Also, volunteers are desperately needed to form a membership committee and chairperson. Recruitment of new members is of paramount importance, individuals and businesses.
HHA: There were no nominees this quarter. Therefore Elizabeth, and no one deserves it more, will retain the honor for another quarter.
FFOF: Philip is frantically searching for the next recipient and asks to be kept informed of any club activities he can attend where a member is likely to make a fool of him or herself.
50/ 50: The winner donated their half back to the club.
Meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Sally Towns
