Masonic Park Pavilion

Club minutes

The meeting was called to order by President George Powell at 7:15 pm at the Masonic Park Pavilion after a pot luck dinner featuring Rex’s chicken.

George welcomed everyone, 36 club members present, 4 guests.

George asked if everyone had a chance to read the July club minutes. Motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes. Motion carried.

Financial Report: Rex presented the treasurer’s report for July. The quilt raffle continues with a separate raffle account having been opened to keep track of tickets sold and raffle expenses. Rex expressed the need to enhance revenues by collecting all individual and business dues, and envelopes in which to collect dues were handed out to the membership. Motion was made and seconded to accept the treasurer’s report, motion carried.

President’s Report: The committee chair for this quarter’s Helping Hand Award is Elizabeth Baugh, and the other members are Dick Shaw and Gail Longfellow.

George also gave personal testimony as to the merits of wearing a helmet when riding an ATV. He recently tumbled his machine and slid 15 or 20 feet down the mountain side face first. The face shield on his helmet ensured the only injury he sustained was to his pride.

George also reports the club members have completed 859 man hours assisting the forest service by clearing ATV trails. Dennis Shepherd will lead a crew in putting in a culvert on Church Creek trail to make it more ATV friendly.

ATV Report: The club will ride to Carson and Stony Pass Monday 8/27, meeting at the visitor’s center at 8:00. Machines will be unloaded above Lake San Cristobal this time, which will be a slightly longer ride but will be less rough. On Thursday 8/30 the Creede club has asked to ride with our club, and George suggests Bear Creek. Emails to this effect will be sent out.

Hiking Report: Dennis reports a lovely hike was made earlier today to Middle Frisco Creek. He invites all hikers to join in for the exercise, fun and fellowship next Tuesday at 8:00, meeting at the community center.

Social Report: Harolena thanked everyone who cooked (Connie, Dwayne, Rex, Le and Sally) and served the dinner (Dwayne, Edna, George, Harolena, Le and Wayne) for the OHV conference held in Monte Vista several weeks ago.

Sales and Quilt Report: Elizabeth reports continued sales of quilt raffle tickets, and we should all be helping to sell tickets as this is our major fund raiser. She passed around a sign up sheet for members to "mind the quilt" when we sell tickets at the coming Rhythms on the Rio Festival on 9/1 and the Creede Salsa Festival on 9/2. So far we have netted approximately $1414.00 plus $350.00 yet to be deposited in the raffle account. We hope to have one more selling event in Lake City at the end of September.

New Business: Elizabeth will chair the Nominating Committee for next year’s club officers. She will be assisted by Chuck Holton and Betty Geis. The offices to be addressed are Vise President and Treasurer.

The Board has voted to purchase a much-needed new trailer to haul the snow cat. It will meet our needs for towing the cat and greatly improve rear window visibility, thereby improving safety and reducing accident liability. The dealer will deliver the trailer to South Fork over the Labor Day weekend. Total cost will be approximately $6,300. Our old trailer is now for sale, and we are asking $2,500.

Quarterly clean up of the community center kitchen is set for 10:00 AM on 9/18, the day of our September club meeting.

FFOF Award: Harry Fluck willingly presented the award to it’s next rightful recipient, Philip Towns. Philip earned the coveted award after driving all the way to Lake City with his reluctant wife to ride Engineer and Cinnamon Pass, only to discover he had left his ATV key at home.

50/ 50: John Graeser won and donated his half back to the club.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Sally Towns
