Silverthread Outdoor Recreation Club

March 20, 2007

South Fork Community Building

Club minutes

The meeting was called to order by President George Powell at 7:05 pm in the South Fork Community Building.

George welcomed everyone, 29 club members present, 3 guests.

George asked if everyone had a chance to read the February 20 club minutes. A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes, motion carried. He reported that Edna Powers is doing well after knee replacement in Lubbock.

Financial Report: Rex presented the current report. A motion was made and seconded to accept the report. Motion carried.

President’s Report: Upon close study, it has been determined that, although we are a non-profit organization, the club does not qualify for tax deductible donations. We are designated by the government as a C-4 organization, not a C-3 which would qualify for tax deductible donations.

Based on the numbers of hours club members reported for performing community services, George had responded to the Colorado Snowmobile Association’s Charity Survey: club members performed a total of 2,012 hours in service to our community.

George reminds everyone that ATV season is fast upon us. Riders need to be familiar with their machines and keep safety in the forefront at all times. This includes not pushing yourself beyond the limits of your capabilities just to keep up with the group. The club highly recommends that all riders wear helmets.

Grooming Report: George reports there are 10 ½ hours left on our grooming allotment. He plans to utilize those hours and earn almost another $1000 by the end of the season.

Snow Shoe Report: Doug reports the group yesterday had to go quite high up to find good snow. Wayne will lead the group this Monday, which may well be a hike rather than a shoe. The day for hikes will not be changed to Tuesdays until the ski area closes.

Social Report: The club will host the Community Pot Luck on April 10.

Fund Raising: Barbara need orders for Silverthreader items now so that hopefully she can have an order large enough to qualify for free shipping.

Sales Report: Lloyd has arranged for the purchase of avalanche beacons and poles in Creede at 10% over cost for all interested club members. He needs to know tonight if members will be purchasing these items so he can place the order.

Old Business: The Health Fair at Del Norte will be held again this year on March 24 from 7:00 to11:00 am. Barbara has arranged volunteers in 1 hour shifts to man our booth. Please wear your Silverthreader blue. If volunteers come early, you can have some of your testing done then.

As it’s time for us to clean the kitchen again, volunteers will do this at 8:00 am on April 10, followed by setting up for the club-sponsored pot luck at 10 am.

New Business: In the club’s Articles and Bylaws, George proposes to rename the “Preamble” to read “Purpose.” He also proposes to reword the purpose to more accurately reflect the club’s activities and community service. This is partly in response to requirements for obtaining the license to raffle a quilt. Le Shepherd is heading up this effort to obtain the license. It will be necessary to change the club’s address and dues to more accurately reflect the current organization. Recommended changes will be submitted to the board next month, then to the club membership for a vote.

It was decided to hold the Christmas party December 15 since other community activities will be taking place earlier in the month.

The club will host the December 11 Community Pot Luck.

Helping Hand Award: Lloyd, as last quarter’s winner, will head up the committee for the next award. George asked Gail and Darrell to be on the committee.

Bowling: Elizabeth reminds everyone to join in the fun bowling each Wednesday at 1:00pm in Monte Vista.

50-50 Drawing: The winner was Harolena, and she donated her half to the club.

Meeting adjourned at 7:40pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Sally Towns
