Club Minutes
Potluck served at 6:30 pm at the Masonic Park. George Powell said the blessing.
George called the meeting to order at 7:08 pm, he led the members in the pledge to the American flag. He welcomed 30 members and 1 guest, who plans to join the club. He passed Thank you notes from Blue Peaks and South Fork Kid’s Fishing Derby for club members to read.
George asked if everyone had reviewed the minutes from the July meeting. A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes. Motion carried.
Financial Report: Rex reviewed income and expenses for the month. He reported that the club Garage Sale netted $2100.00 and that the Silent Auction last month netted $895.00, total income $3155.00. He thanked all club members who helped price, set up and worked the Garage Sale. Barbara Thiesfeld stated we needed to thank Rex and Dora for having the sale at their home and the inconvience they endured for several months. A motion was made and seconded to accept the report. Motion carried.
Presidents Report: George stated that we needed to thank the Fundraising Committee for jobs well done. Members are Joe DeGrado, Rex Blanco, Tommy Goetz, Connie Gillespie, Barbara Thiesfeld and Elizabeth Baugh. Dwayne Powers stated that we needed to thank George, Darrell Gillespie, Frank & Cindy Walter for hauling the remaining Garage Sale items off.
George stated that he believes everyone should ride their ATVs in 4 wheel drive all the time. George & Harolena camped with Cortez ATV group recently and led them on several rides in our area. The group enjoyed the rides and extended an invitation to join them for rides in Utah and other locations. George has the information if anyone is interested.
George expressed appreciation for everyone helping them with their move. They will keep the same phone number.
George stated that the "Helping Hand Award" will be presented at the September meeting. Nominations need to be sent to Jay Becker, Sally Towns or Dennis Shepherd at least a week prior to next meeting, September 19th.
George had received information regarding the club’s snow grooming allocation for the upcoming season. He stated that we will do our best to use all our allotted hours this year.
Hiking Report: Doug Knudson reported that they are still having good participation for the Tuesday hikes. Have hikers from 12 to 75 years of age. Hikers meet at the Community Building in South Fork at 9:00 am. Will continue to hike as long as the weather remains good and peop0le are interested.
ATV Report: Joe DeGrado reported that have had some good rides this summer, but the best and prettiest was to American Basin on Cinnamon Pass. He encouraged everyone to ride on Thursdays.
Social Report: Harolena reported that the Moonlight ATV ride was cancelled due to the death of Mary Ann Morris. Our club will host the South Fork Community Pot Luck on September 12th. Need volunteers to help set up at 10:00 am. George stated that Oma Jean Hainie is retiring as the co-coordinator for the Pot Luck suppers and they are looking for a replacement. May have a work day for pumpkins to use for door prizes.
Sales Report: Barbara reported she had received some new shirts, along with the hats, neck scarves, flags and knives to sell. If you need anything let her know. Roy Snyder asked if there had been any more discussion of a club patch. George stated that it was difficult to design a patch with all the activities our club participates in. Dwayne suggested a simple patch with the club name.
Old Business: George asked if everyone had seen the Thank You notes from Blue Peaks and the Kid’s Fishing Derby. He stated the club meetings will be held at the Community Building in South Fork starting in October. The September meeting will be held at the Masonic Park.
New Business: Joe DeGrado expressed his views regarding wearing helmets on ATV rides and his role as leader. He stated that he felt everyone should wear helmets or not ride. He stated that a Safety Committee had been formed earlier in the year regarding safety issues for ATV rides and they suggested helmets be worn. Much discussion followed with pros and cons and different opinions. Rex suggested that the issue be tabled and taken before the board of directors and solutions be presented at the next club meeting for discussion and a vote. Motion made and seconded, motion carried. It was suggested that an e-mail be sent before the next meeting if a vote was to occur. George stated that Curtis Sears from the Artic Cat business will give Silverthread club members a 15% discount on new helmets. George stated his appreciation to Joe for his leadership for the ATV rides. Barbara suggested getting safety tips at each meeting for rides. Joe stated that he sends a safety tip out with each ATV ride notification.
George stated that the Board of Directors will be having a meeting in the near future to discuss insurance issues and membership dues. Results will be presented at the September meeting.
FFOF Award: Award not presented at this meeting.
50/50 Drawing: Lloyd Thiesfeld won the drawing and donated his part to the club for a total of $17.00.

A memorial for Mary Ann Morris to benefit the Silverthread Outdoor Recreation Club has been set up at the Sunflower Bank in South Fork.
