Club Minutes
Pot Luck was served, with O.V. Keith offering the Blessing. George led the club members in the pledge to the flag. 27 club members present.
George called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm. He reported we didn’t have any guests or new members present. George reported on Sally Towns ATV incident, she was present for the meeting and doing well for someone with a broken arm. John Graeser had a small incident, but wasn’t hurt and doing well also.
George asked if all club members had reviewed the minutes from the last meeting. Dennis Shepherd requested that it be stated that he offered to pay for the food to be served at La Puente if the club didn’t want to fund the lunch. Notes made and correction will be made. Fred Tagtmeier made motion to accept the minutes, Sonny Hiett seconded, motion carried.
Financial Report: Rex Blanco stated that he had received a check for Grooming hours and still had more time turned in and would receive another check. He reviewed the expenses and income for the month. He stated that we had an expense for a chainsaw purchased for the club for the purpose of clearing ATV trails. Report accepted.
President’s Report: George reported that the club has had several ATV rides and will be having scheduled weekly rides on Thursdays, meet at the Visitor’s Center at 9:00 am, Joe DeGrado will be leading the rides. George stated that he had taken a photographer from Switzerland to the Wheeler area for photo ops and he made a donation to the club. They made the trip in the Groomer and lots of snow. George stated that we only had 28 hours of Grooming time left for the season that we were not able to use. We came out much better on Grooming time than had en expected. He also stated that we will need to do some tree trimming on some trails this summer, because the new groomer is wider.
Hiking Report: Dennis stated that they have had 3 hikes in this new season and they are starting out slow and low. Hikes are on Tuesdays, meet at the Community Building at 9:00 am, and bring a lunch and plenty of water.
ATV Report: George stated that Joe Degrade will be the leader this season. Scheduled ATV rides will be on Thursdays, meet at the Visitor’s Center at 9:00 am. We will also have scheduled "Nature Rides" on some Saturdays with John Greaser. We may be splitting the group this year if we have a large turnout for the rides.
Social Report: George stated that we needed to thank Harolina for the table decorations for the club meetings. Harolina asked for assistance setting up the tables for the meetings. Board members will set up tables prior to their meeting.
Old Business: George asked for a report on the meal furnished for La Puente in Alamosa. Dennis requested that the people responsible for the meal speak about the experience. Sally, Harolina, Connie and Elizabeth stated that it was rewarding and was very much appreciated by those served. Connie stated that we needed to thank Dennis and John for supplying the food. Dennis reported on the food served and stated that no one had requested reimbursement for their expenses.
Dennis reported on the booth at the Health Fair in Del Norte, it was a big success and well received. Special thanks o Barbara and Lloyd for the picture display boards and the picture DVD. Dennis stated he had received a Thank you note for the club participation.
Club Christmas Party: George reported on the options for the party, one being at the Rio Grande Club and the other being at the Community Building with Rex and the Silverthreaders catering the meal. Le Shepherd made a motion to have the party at the Community Building with the Silverthreaders doing the meal, Wayne Jefferson seconded, motion carried. Cindy Walter made a motion to have the party on December 8th, motion seconded and carried.
George stated that Barbara had requested recipes for a cookbook at the last meeting. We still need recipes. This is a Fundraising project. All club members need to turn in recipes to Barbara or Elizabeth.
New Business: George reported that Beautification Day will be May 13th in South Fork. He suggested that the club participate and clean up the part of the highway between the Spruce Lodge and Swiss Chalet that our club is responsible for. Roy Snyder suggested that each club member pick up around their own home prior to that day. Cindy suggested that we volunteer to pick up other areas only after we have done ours and if there is an area left.
Garage Sale: The club Garage Sale will be August 4th and 5th. Requested that club members start getting items together and Rex will store items at his home if needed. Fundraiser!
George reported that the Board members had decided to pay for jackets and t-shirts for new club members only from now forward, because our budget is so tight. He stated that the club will not pay for replacement clothing items. George stated that the budget will be very tight for the next couple of years because of the purchase of the new Groomer. Roy questioned the Club Patch that has been discussed. George stated that is on hold for several different reasons at this time. Dennis stated that he had received a letter regarding the replacement of club jackets. He stated that the club members run the club and that the Board members provide leadership. He requested that the Board not make final decisions, but should present such items to the club membership for decisions. A motion was made and seconded for the club to not pay for replacement clothing items, motion passed.
Dennis reported on the CROP Walk for April 29th in Alamos. Anyone is welcome to participate. If need more info, contact him.
New Award: George reported on a new club award, Helping Hand Award. He had consulted with Frank & Cindy Walter regarding the award and the criteria for it. This award will be presented quarterly and will be for something done positively, acts of random kindness, someone who goes out of their way to help, done with selfless actions and maybe quietly. Frank & Cindy designed and Frank carved the award. George stated that any club member can nominate a person they think deserves for the award. George will appoint a committee to review the nominations and decide who receives the award each quarter. The first recipient of the award is Frank & Cindy Walter. Dick Shaw and Betty Geis will be on the committee for the June presentation.
Jay Becker was not present to pass on the FFOF award.
Frank suggested that the club might nee to have a First Sid Class. George stated that Lloyd will be checking into that, as well as the ATV Safety Class for ATVs offered by the Forest Service.
50/50: Phillip Towns won the drawing and donated his winnings to the club. Thank you Phillip.
Fred Tagtmeier stated that he has a Travel Trailer for sale that belongs to his sister. It is a 22’ long fifth wheel, in good shape and very clean. He will donate $500.00 to the club if a club member helps with the sale. For more info, contact Fred.
Royce made a motion to adjourn, Betty seconded. Motion carried.
