Club Minutes
Potluck served at 6:30 pm at The Rock in South Fork. O.V. Keith offered the blessing for the food and club members.
George Powell, President, called the meeting to order at 7:15 pm. 34 members and 1 guest present.
A big Thank You, to O.V. and Tommy Keith for the use of The Rock for the club meeting. It is a great facility and their hospitality is appreciated.
George asked if the minutes of the November meeting had been read. Royce Baugh made a motion for approval, seconded by Lloyd Thiesfeld, motion carried.
President’s Report: George reported that we had a great club Christmas party in December. He stated that our club had won 1st place in the Christmas Tree decorating contest at the Visitor Center, thanked Harolena Powell, Barbara Thiesfeld and Elizabeth Baugh for decorating the tree. The club received $75.00 for 1st place.
He stated that Janelle Kukuk from Creede was elected president of CSA. He has offered our support to her in her new position. He feels that having someone from our area as the President will benefit all the clubs. A lady from Montrose is running for VP and another man for treasurer. Wayne Jefferson made a motion that we vote for them, motion 2nd and passed.
George read a Thank You note from Josephine regarding our participation in the film commercial for Rio Grande County.
Jack & Mary Ann Morris thanked all club members for their help in moving them in their new home in South Fork.
Groomer’s Report: George reported that Blow Out Pass has been groomed 3 times this season. The last time was at night and the groomer worked well and had plenty of light. He stated that we may have to groom at night this spring when the snow is frozen. Pool Table has been groomed once. George is planning to groom Pool Table again tomorrow. He stated the importance of the groomer and grooming, as this how our club makes most of our money. We have about 155 hours of grooming left and it must be used by April 15th. He reported that the PowderBusters are grooming Tucker Ponds and Park Creek. He stated that the new groomer is using more fuel pulling the drag than they had predicted. Thanks to the guys who are spending time to groom.
Treasurer’s Report: Rex reported that we came out better towards the end of 2005, than predicted. He stated that because of membership dues being paid early and membership being up, both as individuals and Business, it helped financially. We currently have 30 Business memberships. Rex requested that any club member interested in helping him contact the area Businesses please let him know. Dennis Shepherd volunteered to help him. The club received donations from both South Fork banks in December that was unexpected. Linda Cross asked why we received donations from the banks. George stated that we had written letters and it is a Community Service support for them. Rex reported that we need to do major Fundraising in 2006. He stated that we will have a Garage Sale, Bake Sale and sell Hot Dogs in early August. He has volunteered his home for the sale and requested club members to start gathering items and dropping them by his home anytime. Items need to be clean and priced. Rex reported that we should recover financially in March and April because of Grooming money. Dwayne Powers made a motion to accept the report, Dennis seconded, motion passed.
Social Report: Harolena Powell reported that the Christmas party was great and had good attendance. She thanked Rex for cooking the meal. She reported that have had 1 Moonlight SnowShoe Outing and will plan more, hopefully Moonlight Snowmobile rides also. Our club will be hosting the C of C March Pot Luck on the 14th. George stated that we have started Square Dancing on Fridays at the Community Building in South Fork, anyone is welcome to join us.
Snowshoe Report: Dennis reported that the club has had 6 outing so far. He has planned a Moonlight Outing for February 13th. Soup will be the menu. He stated that they will consider changing the time from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. They meet on Mondays at the Community Building in South Fork and leave from there.
Snowmobile Report: Joe De Grado reported that they went up Park Creek on Saturday, stopping at Fox Mountain and then on up to Summitville. He stated that we need more snow. Joe cautioned people about riding on the lakes, as the ice is melting. It was decided to schedule club rides on Saturdays. George stated that he would like to have a workday on Feb. 7th to put out poles and take the potties up to Blow Out. The Groomers will leave at 8:00 am and those riding snowmobiles can leave at 9:00 am. He stated that anyone can ride and work.
Old Business: Le Shepherd stated that they are not getting all the e-mails regarding club activities. George said he has changed settings and addresses and they should start receiving them. Ruth Ulm is not receiving e-mails either. If anyone else is not receiving their e-mails, please contact George.
New Business: George reported that he had visited with Mac Hadaway and decided that we could improve the club relations with the CSA if we would host a quarterly CSA meeting this year. He thought we could do this in the summer or early fall. Suggested that we have a breakfast, possible ATV ride and dinner that night. Dennis made a motion to host a meeting, Dwayne seconded, motion passed. George will look into it further for possible dates in June or September. Le asked if it would be possible for our club to deep clean the kitchen at the Community Building on a quarterly basis. Discussion followed. Dwayne made a motion for cleaning the kitchen, Sonny seconded, motion passed. Le will co-ordinate the effort.
George stated that we need to change our club meeting place, due to the jail work in Del Norte. The Annex is going to start charging for use of the facility, but didn’t have a price yet. George had visited with Josephine regarding using the Community Building in South Fork. It is available on the 1st Monday and 3rd Tuesday of each month for a charge of $250.00 per year. Dennis made a motion to change to the 3rd Tuesday of the month, Dwayne seconded, motion passed. Harolena suggested we make a donation if they don’t charge us for use of the building. Harolena also stated that she had talked with Josephine regarding putting up a decorated Christmas tree in the Community Building each year by our club.
George stated that Josephine had requested that our club assist with the Kid’s Fishing Derby again this year. The date has been set for June 24th. Dennis made a motion to assist with the Fishing Derby, Dwayne seconded, motion passed. Dennis will check with Blue Peaks and co-ordinate a Fishing Outing for them.
George stated that he had Raffle Tickets for a new snowmobile for CSA. CSA and our club will both benefit from the sell of the tickets. Tickets must be purchased by February 18th and are $10.00 each.
George stated that he has had many inquiries regarding club member info from the Web site. He would like to remove all personal info for the club officers from the Web Site. Lloyd will set up an e-mail address for the club President only.
Dennis stated that the La Puente Home is relocating their Kitchen facilities and asked if our club could supply a lunch meal sometime between now and June 1st. He stated that this benefits the young and the elderly the most. He suggested we think about this and decide at next month’s meeting.
FFOF Award: Edna presented the award to Harolena for a snowmobile incident.
50/50 Drawing: Linda Cross won the drawing and donated her winnings to the club.
George stated that he handouts for AmSoil from Steve & Linda Cross as a Business member of the club.
The club’s next meeting will be February 21st at the Community Building in South Fork.
Dwayne Powers made a motion to adjourn, motion seconded. Meeting adjourned at 8:50 pm.
