Silverthread Outdoor Recreation Club

November 27, 2005

Minutes

Potluck at served at 6:30 pm in Del Norte Annex, O.V. Keith blessed the food and club members.

George Powell, President, called the meeting to order at 7:07 pm. He led the club in the pledge to the American flag. 27 club members present.

George asked if the minutes from the October meeting had been reviewed. He noted that the date was wrong. He requested a motion for approval with the date correction; Dennis Shepherd made the motion, seconded by Dwayne Powers. Motion carried.

President’s Report: George stated that the new snowcat was delivered on Monday. He pulled the snowcat to the meeting tonight, so that all present had the opportunity to look at it. George received a call that the grant check from the State Parks was in the mail. We will be invoiced for the new snowcat and will send payment when we receive the grant check and the invoice. The gentleman who delivered the snowcat was very encouraging about it and stated that we have purchased a super machine. Several club members attended that training for the machine. George stated that we have purchased 400 gallons of fuel today, and are hopeful that will get us thru the grooming season.

Financial Report: Rex Blanco, Treasurer, handed out a flyer for the Spruce Lodge, a club business member, with specials for the coming months. We will try to spotlight different club business members each month. He stated that he had extra copies of the CSA Snow Scoop, if anyone wanted a copy.

Rex reported that the expenses for November were up from October. We have had good income due to club members paying heir 2006 dues early. He doesn’t believe we will be as far in the hole as originally projected for December, after paying for the new snowcat.

Social Report: Harolena Powell reported on the upcoming club Christmas party to be held on December 10th at the annex in Del Norte. Social Hour is at 5:30 pm, with dinner to follow at 6:30 pm. We will have a gift exchange and entertainment. Contact Harolena if interested in attending. There will be a $5.00 donation per person for the dinner.

Hiking Report: Dennis reported that we are still having Tuesday hikes, since do not have enough snow to snowshoe. Next week’s hike will involve some rock climbing. Meet at the Community Center at 9:00 am.

George recognized Harolena for the table decorations. Appreciation shown with applause for her efforts.

Old Business: George stated that we need to elect a Vice President and Treasurer for the next 2 years. Dwayne Powers nominated for VP and Rex Blanco nominated for Treasurer. Dennis made motion that nominations cease, motion seconded and carried. Both were elected and will serve 2 year terms.

Insurance: George stated that CSA is having difficulty getting insurance coverage for the winter. Mac Hadaway told George we should get an application in 2 to 3 days, need to fill out and send back to CSA. We should receive a new policy in 2 to 3 weeks. George contacted Ronny Day, with the Forest Service, to see if our current insurance would be accepted by the State Parks. Our policy has everything they require to cover the groomer with State Parks, so we are set. Mac encouraged George to try to attend the January meeting for CSA.

George confirmed that we have a contract with State Parks for grooming this season.

Dennis stated that he felt we should pay the additional charges for the CSA Insurance for political reasons. He felt our grooming allocation could be threatened if we don’t.

George stated that the Board of Directors had ironed out and approved the club budget for 2006. The club will be lean for a couple of years, because of the purchase of the new groomer. Our fuel and repair costs should be much less with the new groomer.

New Business: George reported that he and Kurt Miller, PowderBuster President, have written a letter to the head of the Forest Service requesting permission to add on to the building they have on National Forest land that they use to store their groomer in, so that we could store ours there also. Ronny Day felt this was a good idea. George plans to keep the groomer at Babcock’s during snow season and store in the building in the off season.

George reported that starting January 2006 we will not be able to meet in the Del Norte Annex, because of jail construction. O.V. and Tommy Keith have offered their retreat for meetings for that time. Call George if you need directions to their place.

Barbara Thiesfeld reminded club members that she has caps, shirts, jackets and utility knives for sale. Fundraising items.

Dennis had received a letter from the Forest service regarding ongoing projects in the Rio Grand forest. Several issues that may concern our activities. He suggested that George call and ask to be placed on their mailing list.

Jay Becker won the 50/50 Drawing and donated his winnings back to the club.

Dwayne made a motion to adjourn. Motion seconded. Meeting adjourned at 8:03 pm.

Respectfully,

Elizabeth Baugh
