Minutes

Potluck at 6:30 pm in Del Norte Annex, O.V. Keith gave the blessing for the food.

George Powell, President, called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm. He led the club in the pledge to the American flag. 23 club members present.

George asked if everyone had seen the minutes of the last meeting, if there were additions or corrections. Royce Baugh made motion to accept the minutes, Sonny Hiett seconded it. Motion carried.

President’s Report: George reported that we had another successful Blue Peaks outing at Tucker Ponds on September 9th. Lots of fish were caught and a good time was had by all present. He expressed his appreciation to all the club members who helped and contributed to make it a great day.

George reported that we need to have some Fundraisers to assist the club with financial obligations. More to follow.

He reported that the South Fork Community Pot Luck was a big success. We received many compliments for the event.

He stated that we need to talk up Membership, stressed we need to recruit new members.

He received a letter from the 4 Corners ATV Club, who had spent some time here camping and riding the ATV trails in our area. They were very complimentary of our trails. They requested that we plan a trip to their area and ride some of their trails. May try to schedule a trip for that area next summer.

He was also asked if we could plan Camping only outings next year, as not everyone likes to ride ATVs. Will research and see what can be planned for next year.

He stated that a Get Well card was being passed around tonight for everyone to sign for Dwayne Powers. Dwayne to see a doctor in Denver on Wednesday, hopefully they will be able to help him get back on his feet and feeling better. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Stop by and visit with him.

Financial Report: Rex Blanco reported that we have received some membership dues for 2006 and some other donations this month. We have had very few expenses, so are in good standing this month. We have received close to $500.00 in donations. A lot of this was not from club members.

Social Report: Harolena Powell reported that the Community Pot Luck was a big success and everyone appreciated the effort the club had gone to. She expressed appreciation to all the club members who helped setup and decorate. Also to all those who made door prizes and donated items. The next big club event will be the Christmas Party in December. Dennis suggested we participate in the Veteran’s Day Parade in Alamosa on November 11th. It was suggested we could pull the new Snowcat.

ATV: George reported that have had some good rides this month. Have ridden some new trails and seen new areas. John Graeser led a great ride on the other side of Creede to an Ice Cave and a wind blown area of the forest. The Fall Color ride to Platoro is scheduled for Thursday. Need to let George know if you plan to ride and will be having lunch there. We will meet at the Visitor’s Center and leave at 9:00 am. Joe will lead another pretty color ride next Thursday above Hunter Lake. That will be the last scheduled rides for this year, other than some work days to place snowmobile poles. These we will try to schedule during off days during hunting season. Has been a good season and look forward to another one next year.

Hiking: Dennis reported that are still hiking. Today’s hike ended up being a ride to Platoro because of the rainy weather, although they did get a short hike in after lunch. They plan to hike East Bear next week to see the color. Dennis stated that the color is great right now, but will soon be gone.

Old Business: George visited with the dealership today regarding the new snowcat. The blade and tracks are in, but not the snowcat. He was assured it would be here by November 1st.

New Business:

ATV Safety Course: Lloyd Thiesfeld reported that he is in the process of getting the paperwork in to the Forest Service for our club to be considered a year round volunteer. After all paper work is complete we will be able to sign up for an ATV Safety course taught by the Forest service in Creede. May be able to get some training in this fall, but will probably be next spring.

Le Shepherd serves on the South Fork Ambulance Board and was asked if our club had considered taking CPR classes. It was discussed, need to do more research and see how many would be interested in taking a CPR class.

Fundraiser: Barbara Thiesfeld reported that we have new sweatshirts and caps to sell to make money for the club. Tommy Goetz has designed and furnished the new items. All orders will be pre-paid. If you have questions or need info, contact Barbara.

Elizabeth Baugh suggested making a quilt and selling chances for a fundraiser. Much discussion followed. We need to research the possibilities and see who would be interested in helping design and make the quilt. This has the possibility of being a large money maker for the club. If anyone has suggestions or would like to volunteer their time for this project, please contact her.

Chairman Meeting: George has requested that all Activity Chairmen be present for the October Board of Director meeting, as we will be discussing the Budget for 2006. He wants their input for expenses and to explain some policy changes for reimbursement of monies spent.

Snowcat Storage: George reported that he has visited with Craig Franke and he will let us park the new snowcat on his property east of town. He said we could move our Fuel tank there also. George to meet with him on Wednesday to secure the parking area. Fuel tank is 500 gallon and empty at this time.

We plan to apply to CSA again next year for a smaller Grant to purchase land and build a pole barn for storage.

Snowshow: George reported that the annual Snowshow in Denver will be October 8th and 9th. We are sponsoring a booth with Rio Grand County, which includes South Fork and Creede. Josephine will set up the booth. Need volunteers to work the booth. If interested please contact George this week.

50/50 Drawing was won by Barbara Thiesfeld and she donated her money to the club.

Dennis Shepherd made a special presentation to Joe De Grado. He was given a very large, real sunflower from Kansas, it was suggested he roast the seeds and get back to riding the ATVs. He also presented one to Harolena Powell, as her kitchen is decorated with Sunflower accents.

Joe De Grado made a motion to adjourn. Royce Baugh seconded. Motion carried, meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Respectfully,

Elizabeth Baugh
