Silverthread Outdoor Recreation Club

Elk Creek Ranch

South Fork

July 26,2005

George called the meeting to order at 7:15 pm. 34 members and 2 guests were present. Special thanks to Rick Tucker for making arrangements for the Fish Fry and meeting to be held on the Elk Creek Ranch in a pavilion built in his Grandfather’s honor. Special thanks to Rex, Dwayne and Roy for cooking the fish and hush puppies. Special thanks to Dick and Cherry Shaw for providing the firewood for the fire pit.

George asked if everyone had read the minutes from last meeting. Motion made and seconded to approve minutes. Carried.

Financial: Rex reported that we still have monies in the bank. Haven’t had many expenses this month or income.

ATV Rides: Joe reported that have been having good rides with large participation. Moonlight ride was a success. Most of the snow is gone from the high country and all trails should be open. Plan to ride Burrow Creek this week. Has had a report that there are trees down on it. John Graeser will lead another Nature Ride on August 6th in to Wheeler.

Social: Harolena reported that the Camp Out on Park Creek last week was fun. Did lots of riding and fishing. The club is hosting the South Fork Community Pot Luck Sept. 13th. Need help setting up tables. If any one has crafts or anything they would like to donate for a Doorprize, contact Harolena. Dave Shirk’s band, Road Apple Review, will be playing music that night.

Hiking: Dennis reported that still hiking on Tuesdays. Have had some nice hikes. Will be hiking a new trail next week. Anyone wishing to participate. Meet at the Community Building by 9:00 am.

Old Business: George reported that we have received a $50,000.00 grant from CSA to go towards the purchase of a new Groomer. He stated that it was a good thing he went to the CSA meeting to present our Grant request, we probably would not have gotten as much, if he hadn’t gone. We received the largest amount given this year. The Board has approved to purchase a new Piston Bully groomer, if we can raise the difference in money required. George stated that we need another $50,000.00 to go with the grant and what we have in CDs to purchase it. He asked if there is a club member who would like to loan the club the additional money at 5% interest for 5 years, if so, please contact Rex or George. This does not have to be public knowledge. If can not get additional funds from a club member, we will go to a loan institution. We will trade the Tucker we currently have in on the new one.

Linda Cross asked about the enclosed trailer for Camp Outs that was discussed at the last meeting. George said the Century 21 man had spent all his funds for this year. Plus he does not think enough club members would benefit from the idea. Groomer is our number one priority right now, since that is how we make most of our monies.

New Business: Dwayne asked that we pick a day and ride the roads and trails from Willow Park to Beaver Creek Road and have trash pick up. Frank suggested we do this on a different day from scheduled Thursday rides. Monday, August 8th, will be Trail Beautification Day by Silverthreaders. Meet at the Visitor Center at 8:00 am. Will need at least 3 trailers to haul the trash picked up in. Trash bags will be provided. Lunch will be provided. Need to let Dwayne know if you will be riding that day.

George stated that we will not ride in the Monte Vista or Del Norte parades this year, due to conflicts. Le stated that this was a good way to get exposure for the club.

Blue Peaks Fishing Day: We will host the Blue Peaks people for a second fishing day this year. The June outing was a big success, but not everyone who wanted to attend was able to. We will send them $100.00 for gas money for the trip. Roland & Audrey Schwery will chair this event. Will have the same agenda as in June. Mark your calendars for Sept 9th and plan to help if possible.

Gary Goetz presented George Powell with the FFOF Award. Seems George got stuck in a creek on his ATV and required assistance to get out. Way to go George!

Fred made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. John seconded. Motion carried.

Respectfully,

Elizabeth Baugh,
