George Powell called the meeting to order. George asked for an approval of May’s minutes. Motion made and seconded. There were 29 club members present and 2 guests.
President’s Report: George reported that the work day at Tucker Ponds prior to the Blue Peaks Outing and the Kid’s Fishing Derby was a big success. He expressed his appreciation to everyone who helped that day. He and Harolena fixed the access area for the Fish Truck to unload after the derby. While they were there a couple expressed their appreciation for the trail work and fishing docks, they made a donation to the club. George talked with Craig Franke about packing the trails and he was not sure his packer would make a difference.
George reported that discussion at the Board of Director’s meeting regarding ATV rides brings a new policy. We are having an unusual year because of the large amount of snow fall and still snow high on the mountains. We will carry shovels and chain saws on ATV rides and if we cannot open up the trail easily, we are to turn around and go back. We will not ride around obstacles. He had a report regarding Stony Pass and Pole Creek, still lots of snow, not suggested for ATVs, yet.
Financial Report: Rex Blanco gave the report for the month of June. He gave figures for income and expenses. Rex opened a new CD.
Blue Peaks: Roland Schwery thanked everyone for helping with the work day and all the club members who participated with the outing for Blue Peaks. He felt it was a very rewarding day for all present. Dennis Shepherd made a Memory Disk to send to Blue Peaks and will make one for any club member who would like one. Blue Peaks was very appreciative of the $100.00 gas money donation. A big thank you to Roland & Audrey for organizing things. Rex had received a Thank you note from all who got to participate. Dwayne made a motion that we try to do another outing for them in September, Sonny seconded it. Carried. Audrey & Roland will check with Blue Peaks to see if possible.
Social Report: George reported in Harolena’s absence that we had a great turn out for the Kid’s Fishing Derby. We cooked and fed a lot of hot dogs to kids and their families. The kid’s caught a lot of fish. Josephine was very appreciative of our help.
George reported that they had a good time on the Camp Out at Hansen’s Mill. Ate a lot of good meals and some good riding. Picked up all the snow mobil poles. Rex fixed an excellent Breakfast and Evening meal on Tuesday with lots of club members driving up for the meal.
George reported that had a good raft ride, but participation was low.
ATV Report: Joe reported been having good rides and good attendance. Lots of pretty wildflowers up high. He will be pre-riding some trails to see if they are passable because of snow. He reported that there is going to be a new ATV trail open in the Creede area to Crystal Lake. Stressed the importance of staying on the trails.
Hiking Report: Doug Knudson reported that the trails are really pretty now and that water is running everywhere. They hiked Ivy creek today. Le Shepherd reported that Nancy Nelson is doing well after her eye surgery. Club members signed a card to send to her. Hiking is on Tuesdays, meet at 9:00 am at the Community Building in South Fork.
Old Business: George reported that the Grant applications have been sent off to CSA for the new groomer, also for grooming monies. George will go to Leadville to the CSA meeting to present our grant application. Dwayne made a motion for the club to pay his expenses. Carried.
George reported that we will participate in the July 4th parade in South Fork. Need a driver for the club truck to pull the groomer. Need ATVs and riders, hikers and anyone who wants to participate. Chairman, Elizabeth.
New Business: George reported that Board has appointed a committee to research and design a new Logo for the club. Committee members are: Tommy Goetz, Barbara Thiesfeld, Rex Blanco, Elizabeth Baugh and George Powell. Hope to have something to show at July meeting.
George has researched the possible purchase of an enclosed trailer for the club to store and carry supplies in. He has approached several different business regarding sponsoring a trailer. Waiting to hear back from them. He has located a trailer we can purchase. Le suggested we might need to have Fund Raiser for this project.
George reported there has been interest in having some different kinds of ATV rides. We will start having rides on Saturday and call them "Nature Rides". Most of the rides will be on Jeep or Forest Service Roads. He would like volunteers who would be interested in leading these rides to contact him.
Dwayne contacted Ronny Day about having a Trash Pick Up ATV ride from Cross Creek Campground to Pinos Creek cattleguard. Would like to set a date and have some start at each end and meet in the middle. Dwayne asked Frank Walter to donate 20 sand bags for trash pickup and needs 2 trailers to put trash on. Dwayne will cook burgers for lunch. Need to know how many will participate in the ride. Will send notification of the date. Sonny suggested we put up signs on the trails saying we maintain and pick up trash. Dwayne will talk to the District Ranger regarding this issue. Doug Knudson suggested using the term "Partnership" when talking to the District Ranger.
Gary Goetz couldn’t pass the FFOF award on, as the new recipient wasn’t there.
Meeting adjourned 8:30 pm.
Respectfully,
Elizabeth Baugh
