George Powell, President, called the meeting to order and led members in the pledge to the American flag. 25 members present and 1 guest, Joe & Joyce De Grado’s grand daughter, Danyka.
George asked for a motion for approval of the minutes of the last meeting, Doug made motion, Joe 2nd, motion carried for approval.
President’s Report: George reported that the club has had a busy month. We have had raft rides on the Rio Grande River. ATV rides on Thursdays, hiking on Tuesdays. Dennis has led several groups for ATV Trail clearing. Roy Snyder donated a raft to the club and it has been patched several times, thus the name "Patches". George stated that we have numerous new members.
Financial Report: Rex Blanco gave the financial report for the month. Our expenses have been greater than income, but still have money in the bank. Did not invest in another CD, because of low rates at this time.
ATV Rides: Joe De Grado reported that the trails are opening up, snow is melting and are able to ride higher in the mountains. Had a crew that worked on West Bear and did lots of improving, but still tough in some spots, would not recommend for new riders. Had 21 machines on last Thursday’s ride. Have not had any accidents yet, need to keep it that way. Need to be aware that water is running very high and swift in the streams right now. This Thursday’s ride will have a guest who is shooting footage for a commercial for Rio Grande County. Joe would like to have a large number of riders. Meet at the Visitor Center parking lot by 9:00 am on Thursday.
Hiking Report: Doug reported that need some Hikers for the same commercial Joe talked about. Decided we could do both on the ATV ride. Hikers meet at the Community Building in South Fork on Tuesdays at 9:00 am. Doug reported that Nancy Nelson will have eye surgery June 17th and will be out of commission for several weeks. Doug stated that Josephine from the Visitor’s Center is asking for volunteers to keep the center open on Saturday and Sunday thru the summer. Hours are 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. If anyone is interested, contact Doug.
Social Report: Harolena reported that we will have a club Campout June 20, 21 & 22nd at Hansen’s Mill. We will ride ATVs and hike. George stated that we will have a work day on Tuesday, June 21st, to pick up snowmobile poles. Rex will fix the evening meal for all participants. Please let Harolena know if you plan to ride and work that day, so Rex can fix the correct amount of food. You don’t have to camp to participate in the rides or evening meal. Also reported that 10 club members helped with sand bags for Frank & Cindy Walter, because of high water in the river. They were very appreciative of the help.
Old Business: George reported that we did not receive any money from the grant application we sent in to the State Trails.
Blue Peaks Day is June 10th. Rowland & Audrey Schwery are in charge this year. They will host a meeting, Tuesday, June 7th, at their home for final planning and job assignments. If you can help, please plan to attend the meeting or contact them. They stated that this is a very rewarding experience to help with. Need help with fishing and equipment, cookies and deserts and general supervision. We will leave from the Visitors Center at 9:00 am that day. Dwayne stated that he has purchased enough Power Bait for fishing for everyone.
Fishing Derby, is June 11th, our club will be cooking the noon meal for the participants. We need to be at Tucker Ponds at 9:00 am that day. Also need cookies, etc for desert. Contact Harolena if you can make cookies. Going to keep lunch simple, hot dogs, chips, cookies or brownies and canned soda.
Dennis reported that he had been to Tucker Ponds and the road is clear and dry. Need to have a WORK DAY before the June 10th. He reported that the ramps need work on both docks and general repair work done. Decided to work on Saturday, June 4th. Need to bring jacks, cordless drills, shovels, tools to work with. If you have waders, bring them. Any one willing to help, meet at the Visitor Center parking lot Saturday morning. Bring a lunch. George will contact Craig Franke to see if he can pack the trails.
New Business: George reported that the Board of Directors had met and approved to apply for a Grant from CSA to purchase a new snow Groomer. He has researched groomers and talked with the Piston Bully people. Believes it would be our best investment and suit our needs. We will have to match what we request, may need to borrow some money, but should be able to pay it off in 2 years with grooming monies. Should have fewer expenses with a new groomer. Groomer needs to have steel tracks instead of rubber, they have a 2004 Demo model that has 120 hours on it, will be a good deal if still available when we know about the grant. George is working on the Grant now, has to be turned in by June 23rd. George and Mac Hadaway, CSA district rep, will attend the CSA meeting in July. Dwayne suggested that the club pay George’s expenses, since he will be their speaking for our interest. Also requested that we help with Mac’s hotel expense, with the Powder Busters. We should know the results of the grant by August 15th.
Barbara would like to have a Club Raft ride June the 17th. If anyone is interested please let her or Harolena know.
Le Shepherd presented the FFOF Award to Gary Goetz for an ATV incident.
Harolena won the 50/50 drawing and donated her part to the club.
Steve & Linda Cross have snowmobiles for sale. Contact them if interested.
Next club meeting will be June 28th at Joe & Joyce De Grado’s home in South Fork. Their address is 0085 Pinion Circle. The club will furnish burgers, hot dogs and drinks. Please bring a dish to compliment this or a desert.
Dwayne made a motion to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
Respectfully,
Elizabeth Baugh
