George Powell, President, called the meeting to order. Lloyd Thiesfeld led the club members in the pledge for the American Flag. George welcomed a new member, Gerald Walters. 29 members present
George asked if any one needed to see the March minutes. Royce Baugh made a motion to accept minutes, Lloyd Thiesfeld seconded, motion carried.
Presidents Report: George reported that the club had a busy month with snowmobile rides, ATV rides and hiking. He stated that he had received an e-mail from the Forest Service stating that they have opened all Forest Roads for ATV use. We must obey their rules of a 25 mph Speed Limit and riding with headlights on. George stated that we need to comply with the rules and set a good example for others. Dwayne Powers suggested we always ride with our headlights on. George stated that anyone who rides on a club ride must have a current sticker. We need to push the Stay On the Trails while riding, so we can keep them from being closed. He requested that we come up with an appropriate slogan and have stickers made to help enforce that theme. Give George a call if you have a good idea.
Financial Report: Rex Blanco reported on expenses and income for April. He stated we had received the last payment for Grooming for this season. We have some funds that will put in a CD for growth. Rex stated we still have 61 pocket tools or pocket knives for sale.
ATV Rides: Joe DeGrado reported that we have had some good rides this month. Because there is still lots of snow up high, we will have to ride in lower areas for a while. Joe expressed his appreciation to Dennis Shepherd for helping with the scheduling and routing of the rides. Scheduled rides will normally be on Saturdays Thursdays.
Hiking Report: Dennis Shepherd reported that we have been hiking for 3 weeks and have to stay low because of snow up high. Hikers meet at 9:00 am at the South Fork Community Building on Tuesdays. Everyone is welcome.
Social Report: Harolena Powell reported that we will be having scheduled Camp Outs soon. Would like to have a picnic for the June club meeting. She reported that the club will host the Community Pot Luck in September and requested that anyone with craft skills donate items for Door Prizes. George stated that Dave Shirk’s band will entertain us for the Pot Luck. Date is September 13th.
Old Business: George reported that we will not have an ATV Poker Run because of Insurance liability. Coverage would be too costly.
George reported that we will help the town of South Fork with the Kid’s Fishing Derby on June 11th. We will furnish and cook the noon meal. Fishing Derby to be held at Tucker Ponds.
George reported that the club will host an outing for the Blue Peaks group from Alamosa on June 10th at Tucker Ponds. Rowland and Audrey Schwery will co-ordinate the event and requested Dennis to ask for volunteers for food and assisting participants with fishing. They requested that Rex, Dwayne and Sonny do the cooking. Dennis and Dick Shaw will provide ATV rides. Volunteers need to meet at the Schwery’s on June 7th at 7:00 pm to finalize plans. Dave Shirk made a motion to donate $100.00 towards gas for the Blue Peaks van trips, Jim Hood seconded, motion carried.
George stated that we will need to have a work day in May to get the area ready, docks and trails. When the road is open, he will let us know.
George reported that Curtis Sears, Twin Pine Sports, is getting some videos and literature for ATV safety. He will let the club use them.
Barbara Thiesfeld handed out T-shirts, Club Jackets and Silverthreader flags to club members who had placed orders. We can still order t-shirts and jackets. Have more Silverthreader flags for sale at $5.00 each.
New Business: George reported that with several different places renting ATVs in South Fork this year, we need to get the trails ready to ride ASAP. We need to have some work crews go out and ride the trails and cut down trees, move rocks, etc. Since we are promoting the Stay On The Trails theme, if we make it easier to stay on them, maybe others will follow our lead and not ride around things or up side hills. Dennis will co-ordinate the trails and he can be contacted to find out which trails need work done. Volunteers!!
Dennis stressed the importance of working with the Forest Service to maintain and clear the ATV trails. The local Forest Service appreciates our club members for their work on the trails.
George reported that he had received a call from the Tucker people regarding our interest in purchasing a new Groomer. He told them we are interested. George is doing research for Grants and amounts. We have a Grant request in with the State Trails and will get one for CSA. We currently have the oldest cat in Colorado for grooming. He thinks a 10’ cat is all our trails will handle.
George stated that have had some interest in summer Jeep trips. He is looking into getting someone to schedule and organize them. Asked for a volunteer.
Barbara has scheduled a raft trip on the Rio Grand for May 25th. Anyone interested needs to contact her.
Elizabeth asked if we are going to participate in the South Fork 4th of July parade. We will. More later.
Le Shepherd was not there to pass on the FFOF award, Dennis stated she didn’t have a lucky recipient yet.
Elizabeth won the 50/50 drawing.
Dwayne made a motion to adjourn at 8:10 pm. Motion carried.
Next meeting will be May 31, 2005.
Respectfully,
Elizabeth Baugh
