Minutes
Potluck at 6:30 pm in Del Norte Annex with O.V. Keith blessing the food and those present.
George Powell, President, called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. Dennis Shepherd led the pledge to the US Flag. 33 members and 3 guests were present.
Dwayne Powers presented Dennis Shepherd with a plaque in appreciation for his leadership and tenure as President. Dennis thanked everyone for their willingness to help and the support given him while in office.
George stated that he is open for suggestions and discussion for any project or recommendation that any club member has for the benefit of the club, but requested that demands not be made. Dwayne, as vice-president, will be sharing the leadership role for the club. George requested that all members support and assist the club and officers as needed.
November minutes: Motion made by Royce Baugh to accept, motion seconded and carried.
Grooming Report:
George has asked Dennis Shepherd to be in charge of the Groomer and Grooming. Dennis reported that the present Grooming Permit expires in approximately 1 year, but he has applied for a new permit, which will be good for 5 years. Dennis and Jim Snyder groomed Aqua Ramon on Monday and plan to groom Blow Out on Friday. Sonny Hiett and George plan to groom on Thursday. Rex Blanco reported that we have 61.3 hours of grooming time for the month of January so far. Dennis stated that we may max out on grooming hours this year if the snow holds out. Roland Schwery, Dwayne Powers and Royce Baugh have also assisted with grooming this month.Social Director’s Report
: Harolena Powell, reported that we have had a moonlight snowmobile ride, moonlight snowshoe outing and a snowshoe outing followed by lunch at their home this month.Treasurer’s Report:
Rex Blanco gave the treasure’s report. He stated that we do not have a current budget. Have had some expenses for the groomer and other minor things. Received 1 donation of $50.00 for assisting someone on the mountain who was stuck in the snow. Expenses: Receivables: Balance:Snowshoe Report:
Dennis reported that we have had several good snowshoe outings this month, with as many as 17 participants. He stated that this is a good form of exercise and lots of good fellowship. Big Meadows is the next planned outing. Snowshoers meet at Community Building in South Fork at 10:00 am on Mondays. Encouraged everyone to join in the fun.Old Business:
George reported that Curt Miller has requested our assistance with the Poker Run again this year. Bob Sundeen stated the Poker Run starts at 9:00 am on February 19th. Dwayne Powers will be preparing the food for lunch. Everyone participating will meet at the Community Building in South Fork at 5:00 pm for announcement of the winners and door prizes. Bob requested that someone from our club help with getting Door Prizes from the South Fork businesses.George reported that the Creede club has requested our assistance in helping them setup and host the CSA convention in March. They need helpers for clean up and snowmobile ride guides. Also requested that if we get a big snow the day before the convention, to assist with grooming. George stated that we would use the small box drag and would only be out the cost of fuel. Dwayne made a motion to assist with grooming if needed, O.V. seconded and motion carried. The next Creede meeting will be February 4th, if anyone is interested in helping, please let George know.
Raffle Tickets:
We received a check from CSA for $136.00 for our part of the Raffle ticket sales. CSA requested that we send the check back if we wanted. We had previously voted not to send the money back.New Business:
George stated that the By-laws require that 3 new directors be elected for the board every 2 years. Current directors are: Naomi Snyder, Edna Powers and Rita Bradley. Opened the floor for nominations for 3 new directors. Roland Schwery by Dennis Shepherd, Sonny Hiett by Royce Baugh and Lloyd Thiesfeld by Harolena Powell. Mac Hadaway made the motion nominations cease and the nominations be elected by acclamation. Motion seconded and carried.George read a letter from Mel Wolf regarding the Forest Service and the need to acknowledge appreciation to them for their co-operation in working with the snowmobile clubs. George would like for Doug Knutson or Dennis to write a letter to the Rio Grand Forest District with our appreciation. Doug requested that a statement be written with our plans for the Forest Service. Doug suggested that members stop by the offices or make a phone call to acknowledge our appreciation of their service and assistance. Dennis reported that we are in good standing with the Forest service because of our willingness to help with projects, such as the Tucker Ponds handicap project several years ago and helping to maintain the ATV trails, etc.
George presented a request from the Del Norte High school requesting a donation for the Senior All Night Graduation Party. Dwayne made a motion to donate $50.00 and Jim Hood seconded, motion carried.
George asked if there was any more New Business: Elizabeth reported that we had received a 3rd place from the Christmas Tree decorating contest for the Silverthread Interpretive Center. Roy Snyder said that we shared 3rd place with them. We received $25.00 for the prize.
George presented Edna Powers with a special gift promoting Proper Snowmobile Etiquette. (It was a mirror for rear viewing)
Dennis presented Barbara Thiesfeld with the FFOF award for a snowmobile outing.
George recognized Joe and Joyce DeGrado as new club members.
Mac Hadaway reported that CSA has found the money to pay Mel Wolf’s wages. Mel has done beneficial things for the sport of snowmobiling. We will probably have a new Ford truck to sell raffle tickets for in 2005. He urged all present to attend the CSA convention in Creede in March. Mac stated that all clubs may loose the insurance paid by CSA for clubs. Several members stated that they are not receiving copies of the Snow Scoop; Mac said he would check with the CSA secretary for information as to why not.
Sonny had a question regarding an e-mail about Titles for ATVs. George stated that he had received several e-mails and the last one was too late to act on. He suggested that people contact their State Legislators and voice their opinions. General feeling is that we shouldn’t have to register and license them.
Jim Hood sent compliments to the Groomers for the excellent job done on grooming trails.
Linda Cross requested that everyone thank Harolena and Elizabeth for decorating for tonight’s meeting.
