Dennis distributed info from Town of South Fork re. "Cookie & Candy Cook off" and "Chili Cook off" they are sponsoring in the near future. For details, contact Josephine at the Visitor’s Center (8735512). Dwayne P. suggested the club have an entry in the "chili cook off"- we will think seriously about doing it.
Dennis called for a workday on the Cross Creek trail to make it safer to ride, we will work on it on Sept. 8, meet at the VCPL at 9AM, bring shovels and picks.
Rex reported all in good shape for the clubs social department, no supplies needed. He reported the cookout at the campout was great, all the grilled chicken was eaten up.
Dwayne P. reported no progress as yet on an ATV Safety course, still working on getting one started.
Nancy N. reported the Hikers are having from 10 to 23 hikers on any given hike, will be meeting at 830AM at the Community Building until further notice. They will be looking for color hikes for this time of year and will have a Videographer on the hike next Tuesday to shoot video of them having fun. This is a promotional video by Rio Grande Co. to promote tourism in Rio Grande Co.
Dennis reported the ATV’ers are riding lots of trails, but we have had more than our share of accidents in doing so. We have had 2 injury-accidents this year, none last year. Mac Hadaway will lead the ride next Thursday and will include the Videographer to document the ATV’ers activities, Dwayne P. encouraged everyone to wear their helmets. Dennis displayed the Emergency Kit we carry with us on the ATV rides and on the Groomer for all to see.
Our Club is sponsoring the South Fork Community Potluck on September 14 and Le Shepherd is coordinating the decorations; helpers so far include Edna, Elizabeth, Cindy and Barbara. The guys will need to be there in the morning to set up the tables and chairs.
Dwayne P. has located another trailer for our Potties, we now have enough trailers to mount the Potties individually. We will have them ready for the snowmobile season.
Dennis reminded everyone that the DUES would soon expire, need to get the renewals in as early as possible, especially the Snowmobilers, since the CSA dues are needed earlier. He will send out reminders to all members. Our club dues run from January 1st though December 31st.
Dennis gave a pitch to all members to purchase as many pocket knives as they want, they make excellent gifts.
Wayne J. suggested the Club sponsor an old fashioned "Pie Supper" as a Club fundraiser. All members thought it a great idea, Rex will check with Josephine to find out if we can do it in conjunction with the chili cook off on Oct. 15th.
Mac H. reported he had bad news; we didn’t receive any funds from the Grant Committee of CSA. On a positive note, the grooming allocation is higher this coming season, up to an amount of $19,808 total. He reported our Club will be assessed an amount of $1,050 for the payment of the Executive Director’s salary. He reported that we are obligated to sell 134 Raffle Tickets at $10 each for the payment of our Liability Insurance and that CSA is requesting we donate our 50% back to CSA. He suggested we have them for sale at the chili cook off. He reported that the Pagosa Club is having problems accomplishing their trail grooming and that if we wanted to make some extra money we could contract with them to assist them. Dennis said in his opinion it wouldn’t be worth the hauling of our groomer over the Pass.
Dennis has checked with the Secretary of State Office to determine if a Non Profit Club such as ours can purchase any of the raffle tickets from CSA; no response.
Mac H. is still the holder of the Fickle Finger Of Fate trophy, thinks he may have a chance of getting rid of it next Thursday. Dennis explained to the new members (Gary & Doretha Wall) what the FFOF is.
Dennis won $8 in the 50/50 drawing, the Club received the other $8.
Meeting adjourned at 8 PM.
Elizabeth Baugh, Acting Secretary.
