Silverthreaders Outdoor Recreational Club Minutes

Potluck began at 6:30 pm preceded by O.V. Keith blessing the food, there were 39 in attendance.

7:10 pm President Dennis Shepherd called the meeting to order and the flag salute given. The guests were introduced and welcomed: Mr. & Mrs. Fred Tagtmeier, Sonny and Bessie Smith, and Vic and June Grimes.

Minutes of the previous meeting and Treasures Report: A motion was made by Sonny Hiett to accept the March minutes, second by our newest member Fred Tagtmeier; motion carried. The Treasrer, Kevin Bradley, was absent but had e-mailed a report to Dennis: the balance in checking is nearly $22,000 with very few outstanding obligations. He had also received a letter from the Town of South Fork regarding the Appreciation Day ceremony on May 15th at 5 pm.

Sickness & Distress: Dora Blanco and Le Shepherd are now able to see better due to having had eye surgery, Barbara Theisfeld is back in South Fork after her back surgery and doing lots of walking for therapy, Mary Shirk has had knee replacement and doing well, and Harolena Powell is to have parathyroid surgery tomorrow., Darlene Swetnam is recovering from her heart valve surgery.

Trails: Doug Knudson reported that hikers are preparing for the hazard of mud and several hikers are going to the Grand Canyon in early May. There have been 5 hikes already this spring and many more to come. Doug is waiting to hear from the Forest Service on the permit for the ATV Poker Run to be held in August. He also reminded once again of the June 22 ,Old Spanish Trail event at the Del Norte Park. Tickets will soon be available for the country music entertainment.

Maintenance Report: Sonny Hiett reported the snowcat has been serviced and tucked away till winter.

Social Coordinator: Rex Blanco presented information regarding a fund raiser item: an all purpose knife, stainless steel. More to be discussed during new business.

ATV: A recent ride to the Limekiln area ( Old Spanish Trail area) presents lots of interesting area to ride. The rides are held on Thursdays, meet at the Community Building- 9 am.

Old Business: ATV Poker Run is scheduled for August 14, 2004 and hopefully will be held in the area with perhaps as many as 75 participants.

Dennis gave a review about the 10% of our proceeds from the grooming monies going to charity. Our club has already given $200 to a young wrestler in Del Norte that was injured this past winter. Last November the Silverthreaders donated approximately $1200 to the Mountain Trails Youth Group to help them in their function.

June 12, 2004 will be the Fishing Derby, that we’ve helped with in the past, and have committed to again this year. The club will help by providing the lunch, this is sponsored by the Town of South Fork.

Dennis reminded folks of the needed letters of support to the Forest Service by recommending the Alternative D that is best suited for outdoor activities. The deadline for these letters is April 29, 2004.

New Business: Rex proposed the fund raiser and the knives- these would be engraved with the club name, and perhaps the website if space allows. Doug Knudson made a motion to purchase 200 knives and was second by Judy Knudson; motion carried. These knives will be sold for $7.50 per knife.

*** the reason for our fund raisers are the plans to replace the groomer in the near future. The club has been setting aside $5000 per year for this purpose, beginning last year.

The Rummage sale will be July 2 and everyone is asked to provide items for this cause. There has been a storage unit reserved, # 25 at Elk Country Storage; the code is 5977 and folks are asked to put the TREASURES there until the 2nd. Rita Bradley is also working on a Membership Drive day at WalMart but no date as yet. The club does work on projects but there is also lots of fun. Roland Schwery explained about the Christmas party and his Grand Door Prize! Roland is a good sport!

The club was asked if they wanted to participate in the Day Out for the Blue Peaks group out of Alamosa. We have done this in the past in conjunction with the Fishing Derby. It is held at Tucker Pond and at that time the Fish and Game has stocked the pond. It gives the Blue peaks group an activity and we provide lunch. Roland Schwery made a motion to provide a day either June 11 or 14th, second by Sonny Hiett, motion carried. Dennis will check with them as to which date would be best.

CSA: Mac was not present but May 15th will be the quarterly meeting in Leadville. CSA is discussing mile marker signs . Mac is still the holder of the F.F.O.F. Award.

50-50 drawing: Ozzie Wells was the winner of $12 and $12 went to the club.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:56 pm
